Insight EMEA partners with Tree-Nation to help combat climate change
Insight EMEA has today announced a brand new partnership with Tree-Nation, planting trees around the world in a bid to help tackle climate change.
From July 2020, Insight EMEA will be recognising and rewarding employees by planting a tree in their honour in areas damaged by climate change and deforestation. The initiative, led by Barcelona-based Tree-Nation, is designed to help protect the planet and will contribute to decreasing Insight’s carbon footprint, one tree at a time. This scheme will be part of Insight’s Values process, where rewards are given to employees who go the extra mile and live the company’s core values of Hunger, Heart and Harmony. The trees will also be planted to mark employee anniversaries with the company, as well as part of Insight’s onboarding of new hires.
Stefan Tonnon, EMEA HR Director, Insight, explains:
At Insight, we are committed to supporting our environment and doing all we can to reduce our carbon footprint and increase sustainability. With one billion six hundred million people relying on forests for food, water, fuel and jobs, yet, eighty percent of the world’s forests destroyed by people, this is an opportunity for us to do what we can to help remedy this situation.
“Partnering with Tree-Nation to help restore natural diversity in areas affected by deforestation and natural disasters, underscores the values our teammates live by: Hunger, Heart and Harmony. Hunger to improve our environment, Heart to show we care and Harmony to make a difference - at every possible opportunity.”
This initiative is one of a number of practices Insight is adopting as part of its over-arching sustainability strategy to become completely carbon neutral. Insight is currently a leader in supply chain sustainability, with plastic-free, recyclable shipping in its distribution centres. The Uxbridge, UK office has been built to SKA rating standards, an environmental assessment and benchmark method from RICS, and is working with Waste to Wonder to utilise and repurpose no longer needed Insight furniture.
Over in Amsterdam, Netherlands, office furniture has been secured via a second life furnishings organisation and delivery services covering mail and parcel are fulfilled by bicycle. In Paris, France, Insight harnesses the power of green energy by generating electricity through photovoltaic cells inserted in the glass rooves of its office facades. Insight employees are also encouraged to make use of Insight’s flexible working scheme, decreasing the need for business travel and making use of the company’s agile working solutions.
Tree-Nation has planted almost six and a half million trees as part of 238 planting projects in 33 different countries. Insight is set to support a number of Tree-Nation’s global plantings, but will start with the ARBA Sistema Litoralone Project. Every time a tree is planted, employees will able to see Tree-Nation’s progress through a virtual forest – Insight’s Fuchsia Forest. Details as to reduction in carbon footprint, biological data and location will all be shared with all employees, so that they can track how they are making a difference.
Maxime Renaudin, Tree-Nation’s Founder and Director, said: “We will not be able to win the fight against Climate Change unless we stop deforestation. We need to plant four billion trees each year for the next ten years just to compensate for the deforestation that has occurred in the last decade. Insight EMEA’s contribution to this initiative will have a significant impact on the work we are doing and make a considerable difference to the wider environment.”
