Tablet devices such as the iPad will drive the growth of the PC market
Tablet devices such as the iPad will drive the growth of the PC market as it expands by 14% this year, analysts have predicted.
Research firm Canalys estimates that more than 52 million tablets will be sold around the world in 2011.
With a 75% share, Apple will continue to lead the market in this segment with its latest iPad 2 building on the momentum of its successful predecessor.
New entrants to the tablet sector such as Samsung and Motorola will collectively ship around 12 million devices, the report says.
In key developed markets such as the UK and the US, tablet sales will be double that of netbooks and notebooks, it added.
Canalys believes enterprise users will be among the quickest to take advantage of the mobility offered by tablets.
Principal analyst Daryl Chiam said: "The number of affluent, highly-mobile executives buying pads will increase quickly in 2011.
"Likewise, vertical market adoption of pads, especially in healthcare and education, will gain momentum, as more appropriate applications are built."
