Lenovo competes with iPad, iPhone

Lenovo is looking to make a big impact in the tablet and smartphone market

Lenovo is looking to make a big impact in the tablet and smartphone market, with the launch of its iPad and iPhone rivals LePad and LePhone.

According to Liu Chuanzhi, Lenovo chairman, who was speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, LePad will hit shelves by the end of this quarter.

The Android based LePhone has been making a mark in the Chinese market since its launch in the country in May and Lenovo hopes that the iPhone competitor will reach over a million units in sales within a year.

The biggest selling smartphone is China is currently Apple's iPhone, with market consultant BDA China saying that the device sold more than 900,000 in first-half shipments.

Lenovo hopes to make that change however, with Mr Chuanzhi saying that the iPhone might be the biggest seller but is not the competition leader yet.

He said: "Anyone who loses this battle will be phased out from the history of this industry.

"History has proved that Lenovo is good at catching up with the market's leaders."
