A new online platform has been launched by business software firm Sage to encourage innovation among its developer community.
Called Sage Labs, the portal will allow the company's developers to build new add ons and apps for its mid-market software.
The new portal will let developers download and modify source code under an open source licence.
As developers could apply new and emerging technologies to the company's products, the firm hopes the new project will ensure a steady stream of new products in the market.
The firm said the portal will also help highlight less known features in existing Sage products.
Stuart Lynn, head of R&D for Sage's mid-market division, told V3.co.uk, that vendors fulfill only 90% of the required functionality in the mid-market software, which leaves a lot of room for developers.
"The portal acts as an innovation crowd-sourcing platform whereby ideas from multiple sources can be proposed, discussed, prototyped and released to customers in a non disruptive way," he added.
"This agile approach means that customers no longer have to wait for the next major release of the software to benefit from some of these innovative ideas."
