No increase in datacentre budgets

Datacentre managers have responded to a survey saying their budgets will not be increasing

Many datacentre managers have responded to a survey saying their budgets will not be increasing this year, while a second study points to a rise in overall IT spending.

According to a study released by AFCOM at its Data Center World conference in Las Vegas, 37% of datacentre managers plan to increase their budgets in 2011, down from 43%, 18 months earlier.

However, only 18% of datacentre managers are lowering their budgets despite the decline, with the rest suggesting that spending will remain flat.

AFCOM said the outlook is promising for those managing large enterprise datacentres.

Jill Yaoz, AFCOM's CEO said: "Despite the economy, datacentres are spending money. We found that to be interesting because if you look at the economy, a lot of organisations aren't spending money and in fact they are cutting budgets."

Meanwhile, overall tech spending appears to be on the rise. Forrester Research has raised its forecast for IT spending this year from 7.4% in January to 8%, with a 10.3% boost projected for next year, up from the 9.3% forecast earlier.
