New Guidelines for IT control on cloud

An IT industry body has published guidelines to make it easier for businesses to make the transition to cloud computing.

The document prepared by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ICACA) outlines the key areas IT managers need to focus on when the network is moved to the cloud environment.

Proper risk management and measures to ensure smooth running of critical business processes once they move out the data centre are among the essential requirements.

The strategy should also include: clear communication of enterprise objectives within the firm and to third parties; adaptivity; continued growth of IT skills and knowledge; and meeting regulatory requirements.

The organisation hopes the guidelines will help firms make the best possible use of the cloud platform.

ISACA knowledge board director Marc Vael said: "Cloud computing is not a hype, but a normal evolution in changing the relationship between the IT and business departments on using digital information. Cloud computing delivers many advantages to any type of organisation in the world."
