Samsung launches Galaxy Tab device

Tech giant Samsung announced the new Galaxy Tab, dubbed the world's thinnest tablet computer, at this year's CTIA convention.

Tech giant Samsung announced the new Galaxy Tab, dubbed the world's thinnest tablet computer, at this year's CTIA convention.

Besides the announcement, the company also discussed the future of its tablets in terms of display technologies. Samsung introduced the audience to its blueprint for tablet displays from now until 2015.

Samsung's plans include an increase in pixel density that would classify the displays as being retina displays, and a possible stereoscopic glasses-free 3D display.

The Korean firm also plans to gradually increase pixel density in its tablet displays to around 300 to 400 pixels per inch (ppi).

Increased ppi will help its devices achieve battery life of 10 hours, the company claimed. Samsung reasoned that power consumption is the main battery drainer for tablets, and increased pixel density will help reduce power consumption.

Regarding 3D glasses-free technology, Samsung stated it would implement it only if there is demand for it from consumers.
