New smartphone application created

A Silicon Valley startup has developed a smartphone application

A Silicon Valley startup has developed a smartphone application, offering a new way of sharing photos online, based on the user's location.

The free app - called Color - enables users to share their photos, videos and comments simultaneously with multiple phones within 50ft of their handset.

It is capable identifying other phones in close proximity through a combination of GPS data, ambient noise and light.

The app, available for Android-based smartphones, was developed by a group of technologists under the guidance of chief executive Bill Nguyen.

Mr Nguyen, a serial entrepreneur, sold digital music locker site Lala.com to Apple in 2009 for a sum of about 85 million dollars.

According to the expert, the app will provide people with more information about the people around them like co-workers and neighbours.

The 40-year-old said: "I talk about identity: where I work and where I live. That's a big chunk of who I am. But oddly, these people aren't on my Facebook."

While your first name appears on your posts, there is no password and no friending, so unlike Facebook the notion of limiting private content to a friend network does not exist.

In the future, the app will be able to intuit relationships based on whom its users spend time with regularly because it collects data constantly.
