Small and medium-size organisations have been urged to integrate cloud computing
Small and medium-size organisations (SMEs) have been urged to integrate cloud computing into their working models following research showing they are largely sceptical of the concept.
According to a poll of 1,300 SMEs by online marketplace PeoplePerHour.com, only one in four organisations have adopted cloud computing applications so far, while some 43% are not familiar with the cloud.
Neil Cross, managing director of IT outsourcing firm Advanced 365, said: "Cloud computing technologies are evolving rapidly and with an increasing number of options to choose from it's hardly surprising that SMEs are struggling to understand the cloud and how it could work for them.
"This is exacerbated by the fact that some IT service providers and value added resellers are failing to promote the benefits of cloud computing due to a lack of understanding themselves."
Moreover, it was found that companies prefer hiring specialist cloud partners to avail a range of cloud enablement services than purchase cloud computing applications directly.
Cloud enablement services should ideally include level management, remote monitoring, reporting, 24/7 desk support and data transparency to boost high availability and network performance.
