Fujitsu offers smallest vein sensor

Fujitsu introduce the world's smallest contact-free palm print authentication sensor

Fujitsu has introduced a new product claiming it to be the world's smallest contact-free palm print authentication sensor.

The latest device uses the veins in palms for verification instead of fingerprints, offering accurate results.

In comparison with current palm print authentication technology which demands a person's palm to be held motionless over the sensor, the new system requires users to simply place their palm lightly over it.

It is equipped with a high-speed, image-capture system that can capture up to 20 frames per second.

The sensor measures 29.0 mm in thickness, while its design is based on a photographic optical system.

According to Fujitsu, the sensor could be specifically useful for biometric authentication in computers.

The Japanese company said: "This smaller size greatly increases the range of devices into which the sensor can be incorporated. Biometric authentication is increasingly being used in ID cards and passports to identify individuals based on their biological characteristics."
